The file  PACERATE.EXE  is a  self-extracting  zip file.  You can
run it from  Windows®  or  you can  unzip it  with a utility like
Winzip® or PKUNZIP®. The extracted program TrakAtak will run from
either Windows or DOS.

1) PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:

   TrakAtak  utilizes   Beyer Speed Figures,  race times,  beaten
   lengths, and other past performance data from the Daily Racing
   Form  to calculate pace and fps velocity ratings for thorough-
   bred contenders  in  sprints and routes.  TrakAtak rates up to
   seven  (7)  contenders at a time and calculates the  pace call
   speed rating, percent of energy expended at the pace call, and
   three  (3)  different fps velocity ratings for each contender.
   TrakAtak also  ranks the velocity ratings for easy comparison.
   With the addition of user-supplied track pars,  TrakAtak auto-
   matically converts ratings from  different racetracks and dis-
   tances to the  equivalent  ratings  at  today's track and dis-
   tance.  Create seperate  WKB files  for  different racing cir-
   cuits. Each WKB file stores track pars for up to eighteen (18)
   race tracks.  All input data  from all contenders  remains on-
   screen allowing for simple changes, comparisons, and  paceline
   subsitution. The output ratings and rankings are updated auto-
   matically.  Use TrakAtak to compare contenders with similar a-
   bilities, speed figures and/or running styles.  You'll see who
   really has the early pace advantage  and who has the most kick
   in the final furlong.  Make special note of the velocity rank-
   ings of winning horses at each track. They'll guide you in the
   identification of the  specific  pace and running styles  that
   horses need to win at those tracks. TrakAtak gives you an edge
   over players who see speed figures at face value alone.

3) INSTALLATION:   To install TrakAtak follow these easy instruc-
   tions.


   From harddisk (if you downloaded it online):

   1. From the Windows File Manager  choose your default download
      directory (example: C:\aol.xx\download).

   2. Select the file: pacerate.exe

   3. Press the [Enter] key.


   From floppydisk:

   1. Insert the TrakAtak disk in your floppy drive.

   2. From the Windows Program Manager  choose Run  from the File
      menu.

   3. Type a:\pacerate	(or b:\pacerate).

   4. Press the [Enter] key.

5) OPERATION:


   To run TrakAtak under Windows follow these easy instructions:
   
   1. From the Windows File Manager choose the directory:      
    
      C:\trakatak

   2. Select the file: trakatak.exe

   3. press the [Enter] key


   To run TrakAtak under DOS follow these easy instructions:

   1. From the DOS prompt type: cd\trakatak

   2. Press the [Enter] key

   3. Type: trakatak 

   4. Press the [Enter] key


   To run TrakAtak  from  the  Windows Program Manager  using the
   TrakAtak icon you must first follow these instructions:

   1. Open the group icon where you want to put the TrakAtak
      icon.

   2. Click on the File menu and choose New. The "New Program
      Object" dialog box displays.

   3. "Program Item" is already selected, so click the OK button.

   4. The "Program Item Properties" dialog box appears. Enter the
      following data:

      Description:        TrakAtak
      Command Line:       C:\trakatak\trakatak.exe
      Working Directory:  C:\trakatak
      Shortcut Key:       None

   5. Click on the Change Icon button.  A warning box says:
      "There are no Icons available....".  Click the OK button.

   6. In the "Change Icon" dialog box, enter a new File Name:
   
      C:\trakatak\trakatak.ico

   7. Click on the OK button. It displays the TrakAtak icon.
      Click on the OK button again to exit back to the
      "Program Item Properties" dialog box.

   8. Click on the  OK button  to exit.  The TrakAtak Icon should
      appear among the others in your active group. 

   9. Double click on the TrakAtak icon to start the program.

   other person will be  recognized  as registration of TrakAtak.
